• Friday night I worked til 10:30, refusing to let this get in the way of my weekend plans, B, J and I drove straight down the cape and enjoyed a few beverages when we got there. We all went to bed deciding not to set alarms but hoping to get our long runs in. The three of us are training for Grete’s Gallop Half Marathon and B is training for the NYC Marathon. By the time we all woke up and had some breakfast, it was noon, but we decided it was now or never. We sunblocked up and J lead us through some dynamic stretches he had learned from Runner’s World online. I’m not usually one to stretch before a run (sometimes a mile in, usually not til after) but these were great. We set off together, knowing B would run ahead and farther. J and I kept a close distance for a while but then S, who was on her way down, called and I pulled over to speak with her. My long run was cut short when she drove by, I was only halfway through my 11 miles but I didn’t want her to wait at the house for 50 minutes til I went back. Though I didn’t get a long run in, I was glad B, J and I ran early, allowing us to indulge in a few cocktails on the beach and some great beach food.

This blog served as my day-to-day training record for the New York City Marathon with a little bit about how I have fun in the city. I finished my first marathon in 4:17:48 and had the time of my life. I also raised over $2000 for Camp Casey. Post marathon this blog will follow just some of my continued healthy endeavors and races and will provide me with a place to record great running articles, quotes or facts I read. Enjoy!
