• I won’t recap all of my workouts, but there have been a few significant events that can’t go without mentioning. The first is B ran the 2011 NYC Marathon! This was his first marathon and he says it will not be his last. Though I was kind of sad not to be running it this year, I could not have anticipated how happy I would be watching him accomplish such an incredible goal. Beforehand I had sweatbands embroidered with “BOOM GOES THE DYNAMITE” on them. Boom is Brian’s nickname and this quote is from a hilarious Tosh.0 episode. I had just put my headband on when I went to see Brian with his family in Brooklyn around mile 5. There were tons of train issues because of the weekend and I was majorly stressed I wouldn’t see him, fortunately all of a sudden we spotted this big, handsome, sweaty boy running towards us. We all screamed, he hugged his mama and he was off! We were then planning to catch him at our friends K + B’s apt on 1st and 91st. Though we ran there, we were again nervous we missed him but then he came barreling through! He looked so great and happy! His siblings and I decided we could totally see him one more time on 5th ave so we literally ran several avenues over. We were tracking him on the NYRR app (which was terrible, they better improve it for next year) and thought we may have missed him but then he went by. He didn’t look as happy as he had during the previous miles so we yelled even louder. We then made our way across the park to meet up with their parents and R to meet B at the finish.

In the end, B ran 03:32:46! I was so proud of him! His family met all of our friends at the Irish-American bar by us while he got cleaned up. After a shower he almost looked 100% and we went to join everyone to watch the Jets and Pats games. We had a great evening (that went long into the night) and celebrated B’s accomplishment. Watching B run the NYC Marathon, just a year after I did really made me want to run another again soon. Stay tuned to see which I choose!

PS - I kept saying that day, that the best thing I did in 2010 was run the NYC Marathon, and the best thing I did in 2011 was ask out the boy who would run it later that year. I still stand by that.

This blog served as my day-to-day training record for the New York City Marathon with a little bit about how I have fun in the city. I finished my first marathon in 4:17:48 and had the time of my life. I also raised over $2000 for Camp Casey. Post marathon this blog will follow just some of my continued healthy endeavors and races and will provide me with a place to record great running articles, quotes or facts I read. Enjoy!
