• Monday morning was a tough wakeup, even harder being a Patriots fan living in NYC. Rather than sulk over the loss, I thought I’d try to undo some of the damage done during the game and start the week off right. I went for a lovely sunrise run along the west side highway. With everyone being up late last night (and presumably eating and drinking a lot) the running paths were unusually clear. It was the perfect 4 miles of peace that I needed to remind me that every loss makes you appreciate every win.

  • Sunday B and I decided to try a new running route. We didn’t want to go too far since we had done long workouts the last two days. While we had been running south previously, we headed north and did a nice 3.25 mile loop by the Venetian Bay. Before knowing the name, I already commented that the area, filled with homes on the water and little boats on docks, reminded me of Venice. It was funny to see a place that reminded me of Europe all the way in southern Florida! My legs felt like lead during this run, but I was glad we got it in because the rest of the day was spent lazy on the beach and watching football. Go Pats!

  • Tonight Lululemon was having a special night of candlelight yoga. I’ve never done a candlelight class so I was really looking forward to it. I ran the little over a mile to the SoHo store and was greeted by an adorable window display of bag luminaries that spelled out “MERRY” and “BRIGHT.” So. Cute. Great way to start the class.

There was an overwhelming turnout, so we all squished in and fed off the great atmosphere. The guest instructor was TaraMarie who is a yogi and Tisch educated dancer. Her style was very cool in that each movement really relied on the individual breaths. Usually instructors go with this, but I felt she emphasized it even more. She had a guy performing live music throughout the class. Some of the time I didn’t even notice it, but because this big, ancient horn was loud and kind of abrasive I found it kind of distracting in the slower moments. Overall, very interesting night. Got back just in time to cook up some Cauliflower Eggplant Barley Risotto and watch the Patriots game!

  • a very happy return

(I worry if I actually met Tom Brady my heart would beat faster than it does during intervals!)

When I woke up for my run this morning my foot did not feel good at all. I decided I’d see how the day went and try to run later. I was sore most of the day, but when I got home and put on my sneakers, I felt great! To prevent further injury I did only 5 miles and did it on the treadmill. My right shin had a dull ache (probably from walking funny with the foot sprain) but overall, the run was lovely. I got to catch up on some ESPNnews (Tom Brady offered a 3 year extension, Randy Moss’ feelings getting hurt without offer!) I followed up my run with an extensive weight machine circuit. I left the gym sweaty and happy and glad to be on my way back on track!

This blog served as my day-to-day training record for the New York City Marathon with a little bit about how I have fun in the city. I finished my first marathon in 4:17:48 and had the time of my life. I also raised over $2000 for Camp Casey. Post marathon this blog will follow just some of my continued healthy endeavors and races and will provide me with a place to record great running articles, quotes or facts I read. Enjoy!
