• With the crisp fall weather came Sam Adams Octoberfest in bars! B, his siblings, bro-in-law and I got dinner at Mexicue in Chelsea. The food was an awesome mix of BBQ and Mexican food. We followed that up with a drink at Mustang Sally’s. I was psyched to discover Octoberfest but couldn’t help but thinking that with the colder weather comes the heavier (and higher calorie) beers. I love them and the calorie count is not a deterrent but definitely something to keep in mind during my workouts.
I had a few appointments after work today and was able to get in a nice workout. I did an easy ride on the bike and followed that with some intense strength training. I read this article today about the scientifically proven most effective tricep workouts. I’ve done most of these before but decided to pair them with a bunch of bicep workouts superset style. Already as I type this my arms are a little sore.

The heat is still on in Manhattan. Unfortunately, this doesn’t help runners. My air conditioner has been waking me up in the middle of the night, leading to a bad night’s sleep. I tried going without it but just woke up sweating profusely. The lack of sleep lead to my pressing snooze through this morning’s run. I brought my sneakers to work and thought I could make the best of the snooze by doing a Queensboro Bridge run from my office.
At 5:30 on Thursdays my office has what we call Booze Trolley. It’s a fun little time for us all to get together and relax over a beer or two. I was halfway through a Sam Adams 48 Latitude before I remembered my post work run. Oh well, off we go.
Though still oppressively hot, going over the bridge allowed for a nice breeze off the water. The route was from my midtown office, over the bridge to Queens and back. I struggled a bit-combination of the heat, beer and hills but got through the five miles and felt great walking home. I had plans to see a late movie, knowing that I could cool down with a post run smoothie and an overly air conditioned theater was a great motivator.

This blog served as my day-to-day training record for the New York City Marathon with a little bit about how I have fun in the city. I finished my first marathon in 4:17:48 and had the time of my life. I also raised over $2000 for Camp Casey. Post marathon this blog will follow just some of my continued healthy endeavors and races and will provide me with a place to record great running articles, quotes or facts I read. Enjoy!
