• Wednesday morning I made it to my favorite spin class. As usual there were lots of popular beats. Rather than the usual lonnng climb, we did shorter climbs over the course of a song and alternated these with sprinting songs. I much preferred this but found my legs were pretty tired later.
Though I was out of town for most of Sunday, returning back to NYC, my current home, on September 11 was a strange feeling. I live downtown, and though a good 15 minute walk from the site, B lives right next to it, so it’s a constant presence. Walking back from the Wall St gym, I saw the familiar gigantic American flag had been placed on the stock exchange. I struggled with what else to say in this post, but because this is a healthy living blog, I will say I am so thankful to not have lost anyone in the terrorist attacks, so thankful to be living in downtown NYC, so thankful that I have healthy breathe in my lungs and working arms and legs that allow me exercise and move freely every day and so thankful that I live in a country that allows me to do so. On that note, I leave you with a 50 minute, America inspired playlist in case you are feeling patriotic as well.

Put in your mile time and it’ll give you songs that have beats per minute that match your pace.

    COOL!

Very cool. This may help me rediscover old songs and keep up the pace!

  • she’s country, from the songs she plays to the prayers she prays…

As promised, I added an additional mile to this morning’s intervals. They felt great but my left knee is really disliking me this morning. I’ve iced once and hope to do it twice more before I leave work. I’ve been choosing the same playlist a lot lately so this morning I decided to switch it up. I decided I had been missing some country in my workout and chose my “Running - Country” mix. Some of the hits included:

    • Bucky Covington – It’s Good to Be Us
    • Carrie Underwood – Cowboy Casanova
    • Chris Cagle – My Life’s Been a Country Song
    • Kenny Chesney – She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy
    • Rascal Flatts - Fast Cars and Freedom
    • Rascal Flatts - Love You Out Loud
    • Rascal Flatts - Every Day Love
    • Taylor Swift – Picture to Burn
    • Taylor Swift – Should’ve Said No

I really love country. Something about it just resonates and makes you feel great. Or rather, the songs in my workout mix make me feel great. Other country songs just so successfully make you feel whether it’s happiness, love, anger or hurt, they have this incredible ability to convey emotions through music and lyrics. Great inspiration for getting through a workout.

Monday evenings I usually go to yoga with Rach or Sarah but unfortunately tonight I worked a little late and missed class. I’m still sneezing and/or blowing my nose every few minutes, so perhaps it’s a blessing in disguise.

After being mocked by my 15 year old sister the other day for being “so behind” on popular music, I think I need to update my iPod and create a new running playlist. I’ve been listening to the same playlist for a few months now and could use something new. The old one had tons of Lady Gaga in it, but I’ll probably end up putting a few of her songs in this new one, they just get me going! (below is a gift I was given today, a t-shirt from the Gaga show!! I saw her earlier this year but never bought a T)

Some of the songs I’m adding to my new playlist -

    B.O.B. - Break Your Heart
    La Roux - Bulletproof
Miley Cyrus - Can’t be Tambed
    Train - Hey Soul Sister
Enrique Iglesias - I Like It
Timbaland with Katy Perry - If We Ever Meet Again
    Jay Z - Young Forever
    Katy Perry - California Girls
Kei$a - Your Love Is My Drug

I can’t wait to test these out tomorrow morning!! What are some of your current (or all-time) favorite running songs?

This blog served as my day-to-day training record for the New York City Marathon with a little bit about how I have fun in the city. I finished my first marathon in 4:17:48 and had the time of my life. I also raised over $2000 for Camp Casey. Post marathon this blog will follow just some of my continued healthy endeavors and races and will provide me with a place to record great running articles, quotes or facts I read. Enjoy!
