• I have been the worst little blogger lately. I’m going to try to get back into it, because I really did love blogging before the marathon. With my birthday, various trips and an insane work schedule, blogging has fallen to the bottom of my list. I’m sorry. I’m back. I’ll try to recap a few things that have happened over the last two weeks and then will keep going strong!
Anyway, last Friday B and I had the day off to attend the wedding of one of his friends. Because we didn’t have to get on the road too early, the two of us got up and got in some good fitness before hopping in the car for a few hours. I had run the day before and decided to tackle one of the Nike Training Club strength workouts. I chose the 45 minute Stinger workout. Little did I know how much this stinger would be a pain in the butt the next day! I started with 15 minutes on the bike but found that the workout also included a bit of cardio in the beginning to get your heart moving. Good to know for future cases with a short amount of time. The workout was good, I found it to offer a variety and I liked that it bounced around from one part of the body to another. I felt tired after it but when I woke up the next day my butt and thighs hurt more than my head after a night at the wedding! I swear I walked funny for two days. However, it was a good indication that I’d been slacking on my strength training. This is me now promising to get back on it. Hopefully I can get my body feeling strong again.

  • I don’t usually like to address things that I’m self conscious about- 1. I prefer positive to negative thoughts 2. it draws people’s attention to it. However, in the spirit of full disclosure, I will say that I’m not the biggest fan of my arms, never really have been. My dear friend K picked out gorgeous J. Crew bridesmaid dresses which will fortunately hide bathing suit tan lines but feature our arms. Though I know I will already be focusing on her, her future hubby and my friends at the wedding in August, I plan to do whatever I can to erase feelings of self consciousness beforehand. That being said, in addition to keeping up (and hopefully building upon) my cardio, I’m going to up the ante on my arm strength training and make sure to do it 3x a week (I’ve been slacking and have probably gone down to 2x most weeks). Finding this workout online was a great way to start. These are basically beginner moves but I used heavier weights than I normally would. The burn got me excited to hopefully see some changes in my attitude toward my arms. Either way, K+B’s wedding will be a perfect day of love and friendship.

This blog served as my day-to-day training record for the New York City Marathon with a little bit about how I have fun in the city. I finished my first marathon in 4:17:48 and had the time of my life. I also raised over $2000 for Camp Casey. Post marathon this blog will follow just some of my continued healthy endeavors and races and will provide me with a place to record great running articles, quotes or facts I read. Enjoy!
